The line of reasoning adovocated by the prophets of postmodernisms - postmodernism which is at the base of the modern post-truth age - is more or less the same: 1) if you believe in reason you believe that truth ecists 2) if truth exists there is only one truth 3) an univolca truth is authoritarian.
The univocity of truth is maybe authoritarian, since for instance there are a lot of things that are not in the realm of scientific evidence. But the naive way of thinking I tried to summarise above misunderstands deeply the nature of science and reason: reason is not a set of rules for finding the truth, itis a set of rules for finding the wtronh i- truth can be imagined, but cannot ever be attained. In other words, science, in its deepest meaning, and I mean the meaning of Socrate, means putting himself in discussionI: When postmodernism refused science as authoritariam it opened the door to a lot of people that never put himself in discussion - you can find zillions in the socials and the essenc of trumpism is exactly that he never can do wrong. Yhere are huge fires in America? It is not due to global warming, it is due to lack of racking od the woods, since I don't believe in global warming and since I never am wrong, there must be some other cause for that.
Of course the prophets of postmodernism believed sincerely that reason was authoritarian - Hitler and colonialism spoke in the name of science and used scientific method; the problem is that there is a flase science, and it is that science that does not arise from the deep socratic humiklity of putting himself always in discussion - Mengele used the scientific methods, but I think he wasn'0t an example of scientific humility. There is a lot of false science in sicentific journals, mainly becuase we teach the student the methods, but we don't teach the students the spirit of science.
Curiously, the fact that men never put themselves in discussion is one of the main accuses of women against men.
