nuclear power

"Rubbia: neither from oil, nor from coal: only from sun we can get power" (La Repubblica 30 march 2008)

Here a few abstracts from the interview to Carlo Rubbia:

"not only oil and other fossil fuels are going ending, but also uranium is going to become scarce ... we cannot go ahead with power plans on the base of wrong previsions"

"do you know when the last nuclear plant was built up in America? In 1979. And do you know the contribution of nuclear power to French energy production? About 20% But very high costs of their 59 plants have been actually sustained by the State, to hold the atomic arsenal. Remember that to build a nuclear plant 8-10 years are necessary... than, the problem of nuclear wastes remains"

"safe nuclear doesnt exist"

"look at this picture. It represents a solar plant build in the Nevada desert on the basis of a Spanish project. It costs 200 millions dollars, it produces 64 megawatss and only 18 months are necessary to build it up. With 20 such plants it is possible to produce 1/3 of the power of a nuclear plant of 1 gigawatt"

"to furnish 1/3 of Italy with electricity are necessary either 15 nuclear plants or a solar plant large as the GRA in Rome"

"an hypothetical square with a 200 km side would produce all the electricity necessary for the planet"
