Gerhard Richter

A typical german professor. He synthetizes all discoveries of contemporary art: action painting, abstract expressionism, photograph, Mark Rotko, always with the perspective of an academician. Excellent esthetical results, nonetheless. Even the portraits of RAF terrorists appear exactly how they wold be perceived by a german philistine. Look at the paintings at www.gerhard-richter.com, a beautiful site. It strikes me Betty (1977); it remembers I don't know which old painting, and the words of Chauchat to Hans Castorp: you german so you are, romatnic, humanist, and bourgeois.
