Jeff Koons

Many believe that the art of Jeff Koons is nothing but a play, a joke. I believe that his intentions are much more serious, notwithstanding the ludic character of many of his pieces. He denounces our worshipping the gods of banality and consumerism: bunnies and so on – not much differently from the holy icons painted by Warhol. But I think that he points out that our world is a world of fakes: false gods (vacuum cleaners on a pillar), fictitious jewels (bunnies of platinum). His masterpiece is perhaps his marriage with the porn-star Ilona Staller - fundamentally an expensive performance: even romance in our age is artificial, inflated, made of plastic.
