I was reading the interesting post about academic careers in Distributed Ecology http://emhart.github.com/blog/2012/12/05/knowing-what-i-know-now/. I can subscribe, but what the author seems not to realized is that the principle that the rich egts richer is by no means limited to academia, but is at the very core of capitalism. When you have a positive feedback with no negative feedbacks, the system grows exponentially until it eventually collapses. Class war was the stabilizing negative feedback; when it was removed, in the ’80, a few decades after the system collapsed, in 2008. Capitalism still survives and even flourishes because it was exported to previously underdeveloped countries, such as Brazil , India and China , but I’m afraid that in 20-30 years collapse or at least stagnation will reach the BRICs too. This is nothing new, of course, it is just the second book of Das Kapital restated in terms of cybernetic. Everything is so incredibily silly.
